question about unleaded gas

I am about to get my 1969 I/O into the water for the first time since I've owned it, and many years since the previous owner had it in the water.

What's the deal with leaded/unleaded gas these days - I know leaded is not available anymore but is there an additive that I should be putting into my unleaded fuel for this boat? Originally it would have taken the leaded gas, right?

Yes you need an additive and yes it used leaded fuel. Anything automotive should be fine.

If for some reason you need to have cylinder head work done, have hardened valve seats installed. You'll be good to run unleaded fuel. If the head has had any work done to it in the last 10 years, it probably already has hardened seats.

Save the money that you would be spending on the additive and use it when you eventually rebuild the heads. You will be money ahead in the long run.
