Question about V6 head. Not sure about the advice I just got from a boat shop.

Im in the final stages of my rebuild on my 89 150 xr4. The machine shop said one head was warped .011. The manual says the max I can take off is .010. I went to a boat shop to see about a used head and he said just to run it as is. He said he never has checked a head for flat and thinks that the bolts will torque it down flat. Any thoughts? Can I deck it further than .010, bolt it on as is, or try to find another head?

I would do a volume check on the head space, then calculate how much compression will increase with 11 or 12 taken off.

145 - 150 psi compression and 92 octane gas really perks that motor up.

I wouldnt really know how to do that. I could calculate the volume of the amount of material taken off, but as far as comparing that to total volume I wouldnt know where to start. How much have people taken off with good results? I'm not opposed to running high octane. I'd rather get a good used head and run stock compression. I'm not looking to build a monster, just a good fishing rig.
