Hello,
I hope someone can clarify my situation. I have a 1987 serial 738125 3.0 mercruiser, with a ob697871 outdrive. I had the boat on the water for the first time this weekend and discovered that after replacing the tilt trim hoses, that the reservior appears to be cracked. Now I looked on the Mercury express home page using my outdrive serial number and there is about four different pumps listed. And just the reservoir is no longer available. Then on this site I see an Arco Reservior kit that will replaces bad reservoir. Will this Reservior fit my particular motor? Question number two is, and this may be a stupid question, but is there a way on my morse controls for neutral warmup? All of the outboards that I have owned in the past have had it. Without it the boat is difficult to start. Oh one last thing which electronic conversion kit would work with my motor? I do know that the rotor button says Delco remy on it, if that helps.
Thanks for the help.

If you have the original points distributor, it's a Delco distributor. Below is a picture of the Delco.
Not sure what to tell you with the trim pump, I've never tried to replace just the reservoir.

As far as your shifter goes, usually if there isn't a button in the pivot pin of the shift lever you push for neutral, you just pull it out while in neutral and move the lever forward for throttle only.

If you have the plastic reservor they do crack soemtimes, I had a 1988 alpha one a couple years ago and the tank was cracked on it when I bought the boat(the sheetmetal bracket ruste and the tank could take the weight of the pump assy. Do a search and I am sure you will find several people sell them. Somebody used to sell the trim bracket made from Stainless on ebay. I made stainless one at my works machine shop.

Thanks for the replys Don s, Mike neal, and rodbolt, I will try to order one of these to see if it will work. My bracket however looks to be in good shape. I think that somehow maybe water may have gotten inand froze it. It appears to be cracked in the seam.
Thanks again

Re: question for Don S or Rodbolt

seam cracks were common. so were the crappy vent holes in the cap. only took ten years to redesign the flaw out of it. if your cap has a tiny hole in the top for a vent either replace it with a new desighn or crinkle some tin foil over it and secure it with a rubber band.
