The Hi-Jacker is used to adjust the engine vertically on the transom (raise it) for best speed and performance.
The old style transom mounted steering assembly will not be needed if your engine has a steering tube through the front of the transom clamps. If it does not have this tube, you have the option of finding newer transom clamps with it and this would be the best solution as your transom mounted steering tube would not work very well with the jack-plate.
You can also try bolting the tube to the exsisting transom clamps with a couple of braces--I saw it in another post but don't remember which.
Last photo shows the transom clamps on a 105 with the steering tube passing through and the connecting bar to the engine nose. First photo just shows how easy it would be to change transom clamps.
