I need to replace the wooden bow deck supports. actually all mine are excellent except the large one at the beginning of the cabin. Its wood.....looks like mahogany to me.....I tried to measure what was left and I am coming up with a 79-maybe 80" run with a 3" rise in a slow arch in the middle. I have cut off the top and am thinking of leaving the covered bow( great for keeping water out of the boat when its rough.) I am thinking of actually making mine out of aluminum....but it would be nice to find or buy a wooden support to trace.....or use if I think the aluminum brace is going to be too much work. or is there a print of does anyone have the actual dimensions? thanks a lot bob

cut a template out of heavy card board and make it just right, then you can trace it to alum or wood

Re: question for islander restorers...

use the stuff from the back of big wall/desk calendars and tape together as needed to make full width. this stuff will give a much more accurate template than corrugated.

would it be possible to just bolt on reinforcement rather than having to pull and replace it?

on mine the middle 1/3 rd is there, the rest rotted away... I can probably trace is from the curve of the aluminum by putting a shorter board up against it now...the just extend the line on the board I want to use.... but I am 50-50 on keeping this bow deck now......I like the waterproof coverage, but I also like the idea of walking out of the front of the boat...bob

what about using a cooler as the step up onto your closed bow?

ill be using this boat in the winter when it will probably be about 20 degrees out!!! no cooler will be needed! matter of fact a heater will be in order!!!!!!! ha ha. maybe Ill cut the closed bow out or add a seat/storage box on one or both sides to step on... I could add a spray canvas dodger with a bowed supports that zips off if i really wnated the covered bow for keeping spray out of the front of the boat i guess...decisions decisions
