I have a mid 80's Evinrude tiller 15hp. I have controls on my 15ft Aroline Debonaire, and we have the transmission selector attached to the 15, and the steeing. BUT it is a tiller steer, is there anyway to attach the throttle to the controls??

Can you give us a model number so we know exactly what we are working with?

Early 86 and older have a different throttle setup on them than the late 86 and newer.

Where is the stop button on your engine? If it's on the engine itself, that indicates early 86 and older. If it's somewhere on the tiller handle it will be a late 86 or newer. If your's is on the tiller handle let us know if the button on the end or about halfway down the handle and that will help narrow down what year your motor is.

It is on the motor itself. The motor is the light blue with the blue & white cap from the early to mid 80's.
I also have a 74 15hp Johnson that ugly putrid green leg with the black & white cap.

I figured out how to attach the remote throttle, I'm going to have to remove the kill switch, and rewire a new one, I'm going to wire in a clip kill at the motor, and another clip kill at the wheel.

I'll take pictures :D

Yep, you have an early 85 or older. Evinrude and Johnson use a sort of code to indicate the year. They used the word "INTRODUCES", and each letter represents a single number. Starting with the letter I would be a 1, the N is 2, and so on. The S is a zero. That will give you the exact year.

For example, my late 86 has the model number J10RCDB. The first letter will always be J or E for Johnson or Evinrude, the next two (or three) numbers will be the horsepower. The remaining letters can get a little tricky. The motor's options when made will show up in the code (like electric start, or long shaft). The R in mine indicates rope start. The next two letters, CD, are the year 86. The last character is usually a revision number or family code that doesn't mean much.

My 86 only had the stop button on the end of the tiller, and I was never able to attach a safety lanyard to it, so I installed a Seadog universal kill switch in parallel with the factory stop button. A little more peace of mind when I am out fishing with my boys.

I ordered my switch from iBoats, and I think it's still under $10.
