Question on 1979 Evinrude 140........

This may sound like a dumb question, but, should I hear a beep when the key switch is turned which would indicate the overheat warning alarm is functioning properly? Just curious, this motor has never done this, and I hear it alot when other boaters are starting their outboards. I just want to make sure everything is functioning as it should. Thanks..........ALAN

The beep is to indicate that the warning horn itself is working. This doesn't indicate that the overheat, no oil, or low oil, systems are functioning properly.

I did not think this feature was available in 1979. Do you have the original control box with the original horn on this engine?

Lorin- I have tested the horn, as per the OEM service manual, and I know the horn does function.

As for this feature not being on the '79 models, I didn't think so. And yes everything is all original. Was just curious. Thanks.
