Question on 3M 5200 sealant

After reading the good opinions on 3M 5200 sealant, I decided to use that product to seal the exterior seams on my Grumman aluminum 18', center console boat.

I was checking to see how many ounces the large tubes contained, when I noticed there was the standard curing and the fast curing type. Both had the same final results.

Any opinions on which would best suit my application? I anticipate the air tempature to be about 85 degrees, when I do the sealing.

I will be sealing the interior of the boat bottom with either "Glov-It", or a type of spray/roll-on bed liner, before installing the new floor and foam.

 ...Bob in Calif...

With 85 and no rush, regular cure should be ok. I just threw out a large tube of 5200 fast cure that I'd only used a little out of. Once opened, it doesn't stay usable for too long. Stuff gets HARD. I don't know if its the answer for seams on aluminum but someone will. Good luck

i'd go with the standard cure if you have the time. i don't like accelerants (especially w/ concrete).

will also throw out there that i like 3m 5200 as well, but tend to use lifeseal more. on most boats, it's a better choice. lifeseal bonds fiberglass to anything, which helps when you don't know what your fittings are. 5200 doesn't work with plastics, so you need to watch what you're doing.

Bob,

Use the Gluv It to seal any seams/rivets. Bed Liner materials are not meant to be sealers, just a protectant.

The Gluv It is easy to use and makes a great bond. You can put anything over it that you want.

Thanks guys for the input. I did some more reading and comparison and I'm going to use the "Glov It" stuff. It seems the best way for me to go, for what I want to achieve.

Thanks again.

...Bob in Calif...
