question on a 7.5 hp Ted Williams

I recently purchased the 7.5 Ted Williams... I put it in a bucket of water and it ran fine but only exhaust came out of the little holes the manual said a mist would come out of. I only ran it for a few minutes. The housing warmed up but not exceptionally hot. Should I have ran it like for 5 minutes to circulate water or was that sufficient?

Worried, I dropped the gear case and checked the water pump but it was fine.

Question. Is there anything in the water tub that can mess thing up. I tried blowing through it but it doesn't seemed allow air to pass....is that the way it should be?

Hello Rev,
Yes You should be able to blow thru the tube....but If the impeller is in good condition but your not getting mist from the relief holes you need to check for blockage's in water intake below the water pump and the upper and lower adapter plates also, could be left overs from the last impeller stuck in the tube or if the tube were left out over the summer a dirt dauber can block them quick, Also a subject that rarely gets talked about is the water tube & drive shaft seals & O rings at the water pump and at the adapter plate, bad seals will let the water pressure drop so that very little water makes it way to the adapter plates resulting in little to no mist.

avoid running your engine for more than a about 30 seconds with poor circulation.

Also what model Ted Williams?

Thanks for the come back. I have completely cleaned the water pump are area.

As mentioned, I tried blowing through the water tube and could not.....
I took a coat hanger and ran it through without resistance to about two inches of the top of the shaft housing. No foreign was on it. I did not force it for fear I might damage something in the upper part of the shaft.

Should I shoot some Liquid Wrench or something and then try to work it out with a coat hanger??????

The model number is 217-585910 serial 513214677

Rev I looked at your model diagram, your water tube fastens to the adapter plate with thin nut a washer and rubber washer, also your tube has factory bend and is aluminum so rust is no issue, no need to spray anything...I would do a gasket job on the adapter plate because you have to to gain complete access to the water tube to clear it...should only be one gasket to change.

If air doesn't pass through the water tube, then it's likely, that things are plug up, above. You may have to pull the powerhead and make sure everything there is clear. I have seen motors that were ran in salt water and found that they weren't flushed properly. This of course reeks havoc on the cooling system and plugs it up entirely. When I seen this, I had to use a drill and screw driver to clean out the water jackets.

Re: question on a 7.5 hp Ted Williams

I have removed the housing of the motor and cleared the water tube....

Problem...I removed the clutch and shaft from the motor but cannot get the shaft off the clutch. I have used BP Blaster for three days I have tapped and banged. Its steel to bronze....It shouldn't be frozen in there..

Do you have any suggestions as to how to remove the shaft from the clutch??????????

PS sure appreciate all the help...
