Re: question on carpet

Yes, Inexpensive and functional. I cut it to fit very close to all protrusions and openings especially around the ski locker. When the lid is put down, it holds everything in place. Free floating (no glue), makes it easy to remove for cleaning or replacing.

Re: question on carpet

do not replace the carpet with carpet. carpet does not belong on boats any more than around a swimming pool. put down vinyl or paint the wood.

Re: question on carpet

The Home Depot carpet is cheap. It works, but won't last long. It starts to fray a bit after a year or so.

I have used it twice, and will be using marine grade carpet next time.

Or better yet, there is a much better middle ground. Paint the floor, and then put in snap-in carpet. Best of both worlds! My current boat didn't come with carpet, just a fiberglass floor. One of the first things I did was install some snaps and cut some carpet to match. The boat looks much nicer and is easier on the feet. Carpet is also more slip-resistant then wet fiberglass.

Re: question on carpet

Gee, I like carpet is some boats. it looks good, is cool and nice on the feet. Other types of boats should be bare fiberglass decking.

I have found the marine stuff is good but $$. Lowe's had (some years ago) the ability to order most color indoor-outdoor carpet, at very good prices. I bought the in-stock Lowe's stuff for a real low price, and have had good luck with it. It was royal blue.

Make sure your new floor (deck) won't rot, as some marine carpets have a rubber backing that traps moisture, and stick it on with some indoor-outdoor carpet adhesive.

I would have argued with you before my last two boats with out it. Now I will never own another with it :) If you are a tenderfoot just buy you some water shoes !!

I disagree. Carpet doesn't belong on a fishing boat. It does belong on a cruiser or other vessel where comfort matters.

This is the cockpit carpet on my boat. It's marine carpet, snapped in (easily removable), easy to clean, and cool underfoot on hot summer days. It goes perfectly on my boat. The flybridge is also carpeted. Much more comfortable. Of course, the only fish on my boat is what's going on the grill!
