Question on degree of sweep of wiper motor

What the best way to tell what the sweep of my wiper motor is? 80 90 or 110

If the motor is working, try wetting the glass and running the wiper. Then hold an object that is known to be at 90*, like a carpenters square, or the lid of a box up to the wipe mark. If it matches the wipe mark, its 90*, if its smaller than the wipe mark, its 110, and if its larger than the wipe mark, its 80*.

Seeing as you asked about 80, 90 and 110 wipes, I assume you are talking about the small wiper motors that sell for about $100 and come in those wipe increments, and not the $400 and up models. Most small wiper motors are adjustable. They need to be opened and relocate a "connecting rod" device from one hole on a gear to another to change the sweep angle.

I'm not familiar at all with the big wiper motors except that they are serious duty wipers.

Thanks for the inf, I was thinking just the opposite. That the swipe would be a smaller degree like an 80 not a 110. I do need to cover an area smaller than the 90 sweep. Thanks

YEah, wouldn't the 80 be a lower-degree of sweep than a 90 or 110. I know nothing of wipers on boats (almost seems pointless on most) but just throwing the angle info out there.

Yea I think Mark was having a..... ahem "moment". If the sweep is larger than the box lid angle it will be larger than 90 degrees sweep.

Hey, that makes sense to me.

Let me rephrase to show I'm not suffering from Alzheimer's.

Then hold an object that is known to be at 90*, like a carpenters square, or the lid of a box up to the wipe mark. If it matches the wipe mark, its 90*, if its (the carpenter square is ) smaller than the wipe mark, its (the wiper motor is set at) 110, and if its (the carpenters square is) larger than the wipe mark, its (the wiper motor is set at) 80*.

Ok, am I vindicated?

Hey crabshaw just do a search for "boat wipers". The two most popular models are adjustable from 80 to 110. Just read the specs and buy the one you need.
