Re: Question on fillet mixture

Erik you had it right! I just had to heat up the broken bolt shafts and they came out really easy. I did have to (un)screw them out still but they broke loose. Some of the bolts were recessed in the fiberglass/transom boards so I couldn't use a propane torch on all of them, instead I just busted out the drill and heated the bolts up by drilling a small hole in them, then they came out easy with an "easy-out". For the ones that had a short stub out of the transom, I just used a grinder to heat up the metal and then unscrewed those with a vice-grip.

We're back on schedule, thank you so much.

Lesson Learned:
If you mistakenly lock down something metal with resin just heat up the metal and it will break loose.

I'm going to post some photos on the blog site later on, for now it's back to testing for the optimal fillet material.

:DWOW, THIS SITE ROCKS!!!:D

Re: Question on fillet mixture

Ok we got it down everyone...

After some serious experimentation (not really) we came up with the following for an awesome fillet.... YMMV

4 oz epoxy resin mixed up before adding
9.5 tablespoons wheat flour
2 tablespoons milled fiber powder

It cures really strong and doesn't sag. Using a tongue depressor works really well to get a nice seam between joints and such.

Does any one know a retail store that sells Wood Flour? Or maybe give me a good Idea on where to go to pick some up? I do not want to have to order it online and then have to wait for it and pay extra for shipping. I live in Florida if that helps at all. Thanks:confused:

A furniture re-finishing supply might have it. But wheat flour will work just as well, and you probably have it in your pantry.

I can vouch for the wheat flour. When I first heard about using it, I laughed. But after using it I would definitely recommend it. We did some experimentation to find the right proportions and are consistently using that now...
