Question on Fuel System

I have a question on the Coast Guard certfied fuel lines. I need to know what is required to be safe to run from the Fuel pump to the Carb.

The engine is a 1994 Mercruiser 305 with Alpha 1 Gen 2. I Want to know what type of line I can run as I need to run a new fuel line. I had upgraded the carb to a 4bbl over the winter and the fuel line is a Metal line half way up, and then there is a rubber line that goes to the carb. There is a small leak somewhere in here. I want to replace the line to make sure it is all safe. I just need to know what I should replace it all with. From the Fuel pump up to the Carb.

Steel line is what is recommended. I usually just go to NAPA and get a 2 or 3' long 3/8" id brake line. Bend cut to length and reflare.
You can also use hose as long as you have the proper barbed fittings in your fuel pump and carb and type A1 approved fuel hose.
I always use the tubing though. I also looks a lot more professional.

Very true as mentioned above. When I swapped over my new Edelbrock marine carb, I had a heck of a time bending 3/8 fuel line, even with one of those rentable benders. I ended up buying edelbrocks steel fuel line kit which includes a nice bent steel line with a banjo bolt on the carb which runs close to the intake, one of their filters and a barbed end. The line ended right near from the front of the intake. I then went with the A1 hose from there to a barb fitting on the fuel pump.

Don, the marina where I bought the hose said that steel line compression fittings are illegal? Any truth to that. I couldnt find any law against it, unless the metal wasnt of USCG approved type.

The brake lines I am talking about are not compression fittings. They are inverted double flared. Just like the OEM fuel lines.

Oh I know, but when I went to the marina and thew the idea out there of adding a few inches of steel line to move my fitting back a few inches to accept the AFB he said that I couldnt.

I would never use a compression fitting where my life had to depend on it, ie; brake lines or fuel lines. Always use a double flare with a nut and union.

I also have the Steel banjo from Edelbrock coming off the carb, and then the Metal line that comes up from the Fuel pump, where the Mechanic Cut it off. I then have a piece of Marine 3/8 gas line in between these two lines. On the rubber hose there is a Fuel Pressure Regulator. I am going to remove the Regulator and run a line from the Carb Banjo to the Fuel pump, I just wanted to make sure I did it all to Safety Specs for the CG.

So if I put a barbed fitting on the Fuel Pump and then ran the Rubber Marine Fuel hose up to the carb fitting with 2 hose clamps on each end, this would be legal?
