I recently got a 98 maxum 1900SR with a mercruiser 4.3 engine. I am tryinf to figure out how to get the depthsounder to work, which comes with the boat.
I am wondering whether the boat really had a depthsounder, the display at the dehead is installed, but I cant find the transducer and I can follow the wires back.
Anybody have any idea where to look for the transducer? It's not on the outside of the hull. Maybe through hull transducer? Anyone tips from maxum owners or knowers?

Poco, Normally depthsounders are not manufactured by boat builders. It would be helpful if you determined the make of the depthfinder.

The transducer is usually a transom mount. If it is not there it may have fallen off. There are "thru the hull" transducers also. trace the wires from the display. one set goes to power and ground, the other set should go to the transducer.

thanks, I did see wires that are cut in the transom part of the boat. cant tell what manufacturer it is...
when you mean transom mount, is it mounted on the outside of the transom right? Then there should be somewhere where the wires were pulled through, I haven't discovered where wires may have been pulled through...

Poco, Transom mount is done on the outside of the transom, usually on the drivers side, and even with the bottom of the boat. They usually drill a hole throught transom directly above the transducer (above thewaterline), and use a plastic or metal fitting with two screws to cover where the cable goes thru the transom.
