i have a 1971 mercruiser and this particular year they decided to install a renault 90/96 with the mercruiser tag on it..don s mentioned that it had a "O" drive also....being that it's next to impossible to get parts for the renault, would a 2.5 or 3.0 bolt up to that outdrive ? i have a line on a good rebuilt motor w/drive for arount a grand, but don't know if the newer drive would match the holes in the stern.

and what is the difference between the O drive and the Alpha units ?

this boat was a freebie and it's in nice shape or i wouldn't bother.

Ayuh,.... What you've got don't mix with anything newer...

That's Why it was a Freebie,... it's a pile of Parts, 'n nothin' more...

Re: question on motor replacement

if i bought a new mercruiser motor and drive unit, will they fit the bolt holes or am i looking to modify ?

it was a freebie because the 85 yr old gentleman wanted a good home for it because it's been so good to him for so many years, and i help them when they need it.

Ayuh,.... a 3.0l from 1991 to present....

A 470 is equal, 'n on par with what you've got now...

Ayuh,... Yer already headed the Wrong way,...

Piece mealin' it together gets SUPER Expensive...

Target early 90s boats, 'n find yerself 1 that's Rotten,... Bad wood Rotten...

You oughta be able to find a Complete runner for under $1500.....
That way, ya get all the little expensive pieces it'll take...

Re: question on motor replacement

what am i doing wrong here ? twice i've posted about my mercruiser motor in the mercruiser section and both threads have been moved.
i'd like to know so i don't keep making the same mistake....besides, it's extra work for the mods and i know they're busy enough.
