Hi all, Looking to set up my new to me 22' Webbcraft bow rider with a Mercruiser 5.7L I/O for some wakeboarding and kneeboarding. My old boat which I still have has a ski pylon, the type that has a screw in pedestal in the floor and two rigid bars going to the rear corners of the boat. Question is, I've seen people say the skylon type poles with the bow strap are better for wakeboarding, why? I will probably just transfer my old pylon over to the new boat, just wondering why the other kind is better.

Also, my boat has an SSEI106 Alpha 1 type outdrive paired to the 260hp 5.7l V8. My buddy has a 4 blade Apollo Michigan Series SS prop thats marked 14 1/8 x 20, would this be better than the 3 blade SS prop thats on the boat now for pulling a wakeboarder?

This is the boat.

Thanks in advance!

Re: question on prop and pylon

Start by pulling from the ski hook you probably have at the transom. The high location gives more lift for more air time with advanced tricks. Decide after a couple times if you want to add a tall pylon or tower, or just a ski pylon. The space is the boat is important and you won't be sure how it works until you've used it. Get a low stretch or zero stretch rope for knee and wake boarding. Not a ski rope.
Same with the prop. A 20" pitch prop is not always that great for starts so try yours first and see how it goes.
Enjoy.

Re: question on prop and pylon

the amount of torque created with an extended post is designed for ski boats with the pylon attached to the stringers under the floor. usiually from factory, I recomend a tower for a boat like yours. Less work required for instalation. Check out monster tower, and other simular products. this will be the best solution.

Re: question on prop and pylon

I've had the ski pylon on my 19.5' Glastron for 4 years with no issues, im not really worried about it structure wise. Just wondering why I've been reading the skyline style with the bow strap is better. If the structure and load type is the reason im not worried at all. Height wise I could see why a tower is better, I just don't have almost a grand to drop on a tower this year.
