Question on Tillotson TC111A-120 Carb

This carb is off of the 70 Horse Force engine, I am quite familiar with doing carb work but have never seen a carb that is allowed to take in air from any other source than from inside the throat, or bore of the carb.
This one has a brass plug just ahead of the fuel inlet elbow and that brass plug has a real neat hole drilled through it, when carb cleaner is shot through that hole it does come out through other places within the carb.
Just curious if anyone else has noticed this on any other Tillotson carbs.

I think that hole is for an overflow.
It shows if the needle/floats stuck?

Carefully take a small drill, the size of one of those small brass tubes you can buy at hobby stores, and drill a pocket for it.
Then epoxy glue a piece of that tune in the body. If you feel froggy drill through the barb and do the same thing to that.
I did that with a set of carbs that the steel vent tubes had rusted out. In that case I was able to use the same size tubing as the original tune. I made some tees from the same stuff, soldered together.

That makes perfectly good sense. The hole through the plug is just much too clean to have been created from someone drilling through it.
I’m still not sure what the boychild has planned for this engine. To Me, 70 horse just seems like it would be quite some underpowered for a boat this size if He wants to pull tubes and skiers. He did mention a four stroke, I then mentioned the weight to HP ratio and to go with a hundred or so horse might cause an un balance issue. I guess He will need to talk that over with the marina pro where he purchases an engine from.
I did find complete rebuild kits for this 70 horse engine on ebay, $600.00.

Then get a different motor.
One of the worst ones Force ever made(my opinion)

There should be a sticker on the boat somewhere that tells
what size motor and weight the boat can safely handle.
Now if you need more HP??? get another boat.

Yup. Thats the engine all right.
I do have a Fisher Hawk aluminum boat. It has a tag on it that states “ Max Horse Power 60 “, and I have a jet drive unit on there, installed by the Mercury dealer, it is a 90/65 and I asked the dealer about the 60 max rating. He told Me if there is ever a question about the extra five horse to have them talk to him.
the only sticker I can find on this boat says 70 horse. I did finally find some specifications for the 1700 XR Maxum of 1995 and it states maximum HP at 115 with no specific engine and 120 Force engine.
be My guess if the son keeps the HP at around 100 horse it should be okay.
