Re: Question On Towing with new Vehicle

Find out what the rig weighs and what the car is rated to tow. If the tow rating is about 30% higher than the rig weight, ready to launch, you will be okay.

Re: Question On Towing with new Vehicle

The tow rating for the FWD model is only 2,000 lbs.

If you had AWD, it would be 3,500 lbs.

Sounds like too much boat for your vehicle.

there is a tag on the trailer that say 3500lb but don't know if its just the amount of weight the trailer can handle or something else, thanks for the replies

Trailer GVW, not boat weight ^^^^. Only way to truly get your weight is a truck scale . . .

Yes, but the issue is the vehicle's tow rating, not necessarily its features . . .

GVW of your truck has absolutely nothing to do with what it can tow.

The sticker on the trailer indicates that maximum gross weight of the trailer and load. That is just the maximum rating of the trailer and says nothing about the weight you have. You need to weigh your boat/trailer.

Re: Question On Towing with new Vehicle

More info on the boat would be helpful. What year? Outboard or i/o? If outboard, what motor (year, model, hp)?

The 2008 Endeavor has a MAXIMUM tow rating of 3500lbs with the 3.8 liter engine (from my research it doesn't matter if it is fwd or awd). You need to see what that means from the car manual. Usually a maximum tow rating requires the factory tow package (which includes transmission cooler and sometimes modified suspension) and likely a weight distributing hitch and trailer brakes.

It sounds like you don't have the tow package if you are adding the hitch. The tow package really adds a lot to a car that otherwise would tow poorly. I would guess without the tow package your are not rigged correctly even with adding a hitch. With the package, I bet you would be all set.

For that short of distance, I would think you will be OK.

Re: Question On Towing with new Vehicle

NADA list this boat with a 3.0 engine with 2,500 dry weight. You need to add battery (50lbs) gas (6 lbs per gallon) and trailer (est 1,000 lbs) so the boat and trailer in real life is close to 4,000 lbs. Why would you buy a new car and void the warranty on the tranny?

Re: Question On Towing with new Vehicle

Towing five miles will not kill the vehicle necessarily (though I would not recommend it due to other safety issues). But with a boat that heavy and a front wheel drive only, you may have a hard time pulling the boat back up the ramp, especially if it's wet. I guess what I am saying is that there's a lot more to consider about towing a boat (let alone anything) than just if the vehicle can tow it.
