I just bought a motor guide bow mount trolling motor and want to install it on my 07 Roughneck. The trouble is the bow dosent have access to the front of the boat, so I cant bolt the motor down. I was think about trying self tapping screws, but I think they might come out with the constant jarring the boat takes. Any thoughts as to what I should use to secure the mount to the aluminum bow?
THANKS

Re: Question on trolling motor mounting

Using sheet metal screws would indeed be a big mistake. Minnkota makes an installation kit for just such situations. It uses what are called "Well Nuts" which are rubber plugs that have a nut embedded in it. You drill a hole for the well nut. Slip in the well nut (it has a flange at the top to keep it from going through the hole). You then place the motor mount on the well nut and insert and tighten the bolts. As you tighten the bolts the plug expands making a nice tight installation and the well nuts serve as a vibration damper as well. Cabela's and Bass Pro and right here on IBoats is a good place to get the kit.
