I am just starting to think of building a 350 engine to replace my Stock 305. What I am wondering is, currently I have a 94 305 with an Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive.

What year/block woudl I need to make this conversion the simplest? I am just looking for down the road, and do not plan on doing it right away, but thought I might start looking for a new block, since I am seeing them very cheap at times. Then start to build it up, and then it would be ready to put in at some point down the road. I know the 305 is lower on tourque and I do wish to have extra holeshot/torque.

Thanks for any input.

unless you want to build it from scratch or have someone specific build something for you, you're probably going to be cheapest and easiest to just go with an assembled reman long block (with heads) or short block.

Yep, that's the ticket. And if you were planning to buy a new intake manifold, then go for a 1996 and up engine with Vortec Heads.
