Hello to everyone,

I have a question on winterizing my 1989 Evinrude V-4 SPL outboard model# E88MSLCER. Let me know if I am leaving or improperly doing a step, but anyway, here is what I was going to do to winterize my outboard boat motor. First of all, I will put in fuel stabilizer in my fuel tank(10 gallon capacity) that has a half of tank currently in it. Then I will crank my out board with the muffs and water going threw the power head until the engine gets warmed up and gets the fuel stabilizer throught the fuel lines and carbuerators, then I will spary Sea Foam Deep Creep in a spray can into the carbs until it sputters or chokes out, then I will remove the fuel connection and let it run out of fuel, then I will take the plugs out and put TCW3 outboard oil into each of the cylinders and rotate the flywheel clockwise to thoroughly get the oil into the cylinder walls, then I will install the spark plugs and lube down the power head with Sea Foam Deep Creep, lube the grease fittings and change the lower leg unit oil and push the boat back into the garage and hope she will be good to go for next season. Hopefuklly I have covered all of the steps to winterize my outboard. Let me know. Thanks, Bob

A couple of things - don't run the fuel completely out of the carbs and the other when you park it do so with the engine verticle - not tilted up. You might also take the battery out and give it a quick charge every month or so. Outside of that you seem to have the bases covered.

Don't forget your wheel bearings on the trailer, and the air pressure in the tires. Also, assure that your hull doesn't have stray water in it.

Frabic softner dryer sheets will help keep the mice out of the upholstery. I always store my life jackets indoors.

I would use a true fogging oil sprayed into the carbs rather than SeaFoam or Deep Creep. It's stickier. Spray the same fogging oil into the spark plug holes and turn the engine over. No need for the TCW3 in the plug holes if you use fogging oil. Otherwise, OK on the process. Deep Creep is SeaFoam in a spray can and is not really a lubricant although it does contain some. It is a fuel system cleaner and decarb agent (for removing carbon build up).

Yep, dump the Deep Creep......Its best used as a Decarber. But I would (and have for decades) use plain old WD 40 on the spray down of the powerhead. And as said, use fogger in the shutdown, then the jugs if ya want, but TCW will work fine too.

I second the notion of not using deep creep on the powerhead exterior (I didn't read it that way the first time) I skipped my fogging comments, because I have had good luck with two stroke oil in the cylinders in the past, but I use Bombardier's fogging aerosol now. I'm not real big on WD-40 as it evaporates and leaves a residue (sometimes quite gummy) behind. I like to dry out my powerhead, wipe it down with an oil cloth, and not worry too much if it doesn't have rain or snow blowing into it.
