Question/Recommendations on Aftermarket Seats

I posted a while back looking for suggestions on seat mounts that may help with back issues. I've made no changes yet to the basic seats that came with the boat. The last few times I took it out I had no pain issues because I put my throwable in the seat and sat on that. It seems some extra padding may just do the trick.

So, since Bass Pro and West Marine and those guys like to charge a ton for upgraded seats, can anyone recommend some good aftermarket seats that I may can pick up on Amazon or Ebay and save a few bucks? The idea here is to get as much padding as I can get between my butt and my boat. :)

Re: Question/Recommendations on Aftermarket Seats

I have and I'm pleased with what I have seen. A coworker just got a few seats from iboats and he is pleased with them. So iboats is certainly a front runner. I bought my new prop and a few other things from here as well.

I suppose the fear I have of buying from iboats or anywhere else online for that matter is I don't have a way to test them out myself. That's why I was hoping someone out there had some personal experience with something they can recommend. I have seven bad disks in my back and neck. If I take the boat out with the stock seats, I have a headache for the next few days. Adding some padding has helped with that recently. So I'm looking for good replacements with good padding. I'm just trying to do some exhaustive research before getting anything especially considering the cost of decent seats.

Try doing a search on the forum for some of the seat brands you are looking at...

I can't help you with seat selection but I will make a suggestion.

Unless you need the firmness of the PDF or yours is well worn any of 100's of cushions sold everywhere or 2-4 layers of 7/16 rebond carpet pad, cut to fit and covered would make for a much softer cushion. There are add on cushion bottom and back made for bucket automotive seats that might adapt to a boat seat.

My back prefers a straighter position than my current boat seat provides. I am toying with and will test the concept of adding 2 small wedges between the seat back and frame to straighten it up a bit. That will only cost some scrap wood and longer bolts.

I bought 2 replacement seats for my bowrider refurb last year. Got them from v e a d a. Spaces are intentional to avoid the company being blanked out. Also check out Walmart in the marine section online. I was really, really surprised at the stuff they seel. They had some nice seats too.

Re: Question/Recommendations on Aftermarket Seats

This is so really odd. I ordered seats here on iboats on June 10, 2013 and while reading this post I decided to check my email to see if there was any news about my order. They just this morning sent me an email stating that Wise manufacturer has extended my shipping date another 7-10 BUSINESS days. So I guess if you want seats for this boating season, you should have ordered them back around January. Not really mad because I ordered them knowing I'm not quite ready to install them at this time. But had I ordered them for a replacement immediately, I would be a little ill... However, the seats I selected are built by Wise and look very nice and comfy. However, I seriously don't actual know...yet!
