I have a 2005 Polar 2300 WA with twin Yamaha 150s. My question today is regarding one of my motors. I had the oil changed by a marina at the beginning of the season. At one point, I noticed some oil around the drain plug. Not a lot, but it was sitting in that rubber channel the plug sits in. The motors were up so that channel was horizontal.
Long story short, I found that the plug must have vibrated loose so I snugged it up. Checked the oil, level was still good. Also, the oil was still clear, not milky at all.
But now since then, I still seem to be getting a small amount of oil in the rubber channel. Even after a week of being docked (motors are tilted up), its such a small amount that it doesn't flow out the end of the channel. I've run the engines, check the oil before and after each time, and still no noticeable loss of oil on the dipstick and no milky oil.
So at this point I have three general questions:
1) Is it possible I'm not actually leaking oil at the drain plug?
2) If I wanted to pull the drain plug and replace the washer, can I use an oil extractor and then pull the plug (with the engine tilted up) without oil draining into the water? I do not have a trailer to haul it out.
