question to the engines experts!!!

hello there I have a 1995 mercruiser 228/305, and a alpha one gen II, what can I do if I want to increase horse power out my engine, what will be the max horse power for the 228, or will be better just to get me a 350, I know the hp cant be over 300hp because the outdrive, thanks again...

If your 305 is anything but fresh, just move on to the 350. If this is a heavy boat and you need more power to just get on plane, go for the 350, or maybe 383. If you want a little wot speed increase and maybe some overall powerband improvement, look to a 4brl or 4brl/vortec head upgrades. The latter might get you 240hp at prop. A 350 vortec/4brl would be around 280hp at prop. These are what I would call stock like modifications. ie the most economical (if there is such a thing).
