Re: Question
You will have to remove all the old OMC except the long block of the engine, and install Merc parts in place of it. After you rebuild the trandom to make it thicker and plug the huge stringer hole, and possibly rebuild the stringers. Would be a lot cheaper to find a boat with the power you want.
Appreciate the answers from u and Bondo. Thats where I was going with the question, was finding a donor boat with blown 351 a viable option. I can do the transom and from previous experiences appreciate the time it will take. Fortunately I work cheap.
I have all the where with all to throw the 351, the OMC housing and outdrive back in, but understand its reputation. At the least I think I'd keep a back up housing and outdrive around.
Why am I hepped up on this boat? Its a 23 foot with a flying bridge that tows like there's nothing behind my truck and perfect for the big mountain lakes up here. Very moveable and all the comforts inside.
So I'm just tossing all these ideas around looking for my best solution.
