Re: Question

Yes you do have an ignition module. If I remember right it is in the distributor. "plug not being used" is probably the one.

Re: Question

Hopefully you are using the merc distributor as its approved for use on a BOAT. I don't think using automotive parts like that will be accepted very well among the people of iboats. But ignition module is usually housed within the distributor housing... pull the cap off and have a look.

Re: Question

Re: Question

I just got the boat trying to fix it correctly...

You need a Mercruiser serial number off your engine if you have any hopes of finding the proper information for your engine.

Re: Question

hey bryan the 2 white wires white green adn white red go to the module which should be located on the port side exhaust riser. they are bullet connectors. the wires they hook into are also white red and white green they are power and ground from the module. not sure about the plug on the distributor. should be a purple wire goin to + side of coil and Gray to the -. if you can post your serial number that will help with knowing what the plus is for. on some models the plug isnt used but that usally the efi modules.

Re: Question

Yes car engine is fine. But you need to be using the original marine approved accessories...not the parts from the donor car. Goodluck.

Re: Question

Sounds to me like a Delco EST dist , the empty 4 prong plug is for the timing jumper.Look at the bottom of the dist housing, of you see 2 screened vents it is marine legal.

Re: Question

It sounds like your asking if we think you should buy another engine....Hard to tell with next to no punctuation. I don't understand why you would want to replace that engine, just find a junk mercruiser and swap the marine stuff over. Marine alternators/starters/etc are important. As for the timing on this beast, should be the same as any other truck 4.3.

It looks like you have a real pain in the rear on your hands.
