I have a late 1950's 18hp Evinrude. I was wondering if there was a way i could run just a gas line from a fuel tank to the carb. Right now it has 2 seperate hoses 1 air 1 fuel. Is there an easy fix to that. Could i just run a fuel line for the gas and leave the air cut or something.

Thanks

Chris

Re: Question???

This is stretching my already poor memory but I believe that motor feeds gas to the carbs by pressurizing the tank. If this is correct, then it wouldn't work without some kind of fuel pump. Maybe some of the other guys memories are better than mine.

Re: Question???

Hi Chris
No. This motor has no fuel pump. It gets fuel from the tank with presure from the motor. The air presure goes for the motor and presurizes the tank, Then forces the fuel to the carb. If you have an air leak anywhere in the system it won't work. If your fuel line connector is broken or missing, you could hook both hoses directly to the motor, temporarly by-passing the connection. (fuel to the carb, air to motor). This is fine in a pinch, but it's a real pain to run this way all the time. You asked, an easy way to fix somthing. What is your exact problem. These fuel systems are repairable and if a through job is done they are depenable too.

Re: Question???

Thats rite..that engine does NOT have a fuel pump.....BUT I think you can add a fuel pump, possibly remote mounted under the cowel. Some of the old OMC mechanics here might know? For the time being, it MUST be pressurized or it won't run...

Re: Question???

Buy a generic fuel pump from a local marine supply and plumb it in under the bonnet.

Re: Question???

thanks guys i guess ill have to run the same old way. I couldnt find to seprate fuel lines for the motor thats why i asked. I used wiper washer line. and that only comes in 3ft sections. Ill look around some more. Just thought of something. The hobby shop may have some small fuel line. I know the Automotive stores dont carry it that small.

Chris

Re: Question???

the small fuel line can be found at most marine supply or small engine repair shops. Home Depot also sells it in a clear vinyl which is used on weed eaters and chain saws....
Napa also carries it in their Sierra line :)
