I've got a Minn-Kota Powerdrive V2, which is a variable speed trolling motor, on my boat. Recently I purchased a Garmin Echo 300 fishfinder, and this will be the first fishfinder I've mounted on this boat. I have heard that variable speed trolling motors cause a lot of electrical interference, and the depthfinder should be powered from a separate battery. Is this true, and does anyone have any suggestions for eliminating interference?

Re: Questions about a Garmin Echo 300 installiation

Most electrical interface comes from a poor or ?inexpensive? design of the ?pinger? circuit. If your unit came with a ferrite, make sure the ferrite is properly installed and try connecting unit directly to the house battery. Garmin is pretty good with their circuit designs so chances are good that you will not have any problems.
