Questions about overhauling a KF-5 Mercury outboard

I’m new to this forum so forgive me for my basic questions. I was gifted a Mercury KF-5 outboard motor (5hp). I think it’s a circa 1950’s model.

I recently replaced the plugs, clean the tank, filled it with enough gas/oil mix to start the motor. I wanted to make sure things worked well enough to move forward with an overhaul and getting it up & running. I want to add it to my bass boat as a kicker for major engine problems as well as using it to fish smaller lakes with motor size restrictions.

Here are the questions I’ve come up with so far….

How do I get to the points? From what I’ve read so far, I have to remove the magneto (backwards thread?) and supposedly the points are hidden underneath? Are any special tools required and if so, where do I get them?

Regarding the fuel/carb adjustments. What is the zero point from where I start with setting the needle valves as well as the fuel adjustment? I’m assuming I turn all the screws in until they stop and then back them off a specific amount to start with? Is there a recommended amount I turn the adjustments to start? One’s a low speed adjustment, one’s for high speed, not sure what the 3rd one is for. The 4th one is for fuel into the carb.

For the oil in the lower unit, is there a best product to use?

Lastly, where can I find parts for this little fella? I found a couple parts/gaskets at marineengine.com but for the most part, they were out of a majority of parts.

Thanks in advance for your help!
