Questions about parting out

Howdy all, I just found out my transom and stringers are totally rotten so I was thinking of parting out the boat. I was wondering what would be a fair asking price for the good running 3.7 liter 170 hp Merc engine, Alpha 1 Gen 1 Drive, and a dual axle trailer for 18' boat.

And please no jokes about the 470 engine.

you would really have to look at the market where you are around here that all would go for 1000 to 1500 but were flooded with ike boats to

Re: Questions about parting out

I would research the "Completed" auctions on Ebay and search Craigslist for similar items. That should give you a range of asking prices and the completed auctions will show up in Green if the item sold and Red if it did not sell.

I would bet the value of the engine will vary based on location. Over here by the ocean, it probably will sell for a different price than out west where you have all fresh water.

I would get a video of the engine running, with a date stamp on it or something to prove the day the video was shot, so you could advertise the engine along with some proof that it runs.

From what I have seen on Craigslist and Auctions I have checked into, the outdrive would be in the range of $400 to $1000. That's just the asking prices I have seen. Not sure about how much they actually sold for. I would expect a similar range for the engine.

Thanks guys, I've been trying to get an idea how much I could get for the engine, drive, and trailer compared to just selling the whole thing together. I didn't really know if it was worth the hassle of disassembling the thing. I only bought the thing a month ago as my first boat, and I didn't have any idea what to look out for when I bought it. I found out first hand what rot looks like real quick. :(
