i have 2 questions i need your consult on please...id really appreciate it...

they are theroitecal....

#1...
i was thinking of adding a "cool can" like thingie to my boat...
(we used cool cans on race day to chill the gas in our cars, in the seventies)

take a refridgerator evaproator...(an aluminimum raditator like thingie)....
and put it in the bottom of my ice chest....(built in to the bottom of my boat)......
run the fuel lines thru it and chill the gas.....place a insulator around it and run it to the pump...then carb...

or...run it from the pump to the cooler then to the carb.....30 feet of run....(will the pump be able to do it?...(pressure?) )

the real question is ....will it do any good..?? how much benefit will i get...a .....03 percent increase in power? is it worth it?

question 2....

wanna do the same thing with air to the motor...same system...use water thru the evaporator...pump it to the back of the boat....run it thru another evaporator and use several fans to blow the now ice cold air into the specially made.... sealed air intake chamber around the carb.

question is .....it will add twenty pounds of weight !!!! will the benefit out weight the cost of the weight?....

thanks guys....

A lot of that ice and cold wet rags on the manifolds, carbs, and fuel lines was to prevent vapor lock. Which, back when those tricks were used, was on engines running a lot hotter than what a marine engine runs.
Peep plenty of air movement in the engine area and keep the engine below 180? and you will be fine.
The gain would probably be closer to .001% in BC

Ayuh,......

Sounds like Alot of seat of the pants engineering,+ Hassle.......

Unless you were talking 10% or More............

For the incoming Air,........ Just slap a Big Scoop onto the intake..........
Then all ya gotta do is Listen to it, instead of tending to the Ice........

Cooler air will make a difference. You can find thermal temperature calculators online to calculate engine output in combustion increase. Colder air = more mass more air means you can add more fuel and make more power...your case may or may not be worth it.

Turbo's use intercoolers for this purpose but the turbo heats up the air quite a bit too.

I agree. Your best bet is some sort of cold air induction setup that doesn't violate marine safety.

That motor is sucking warm air out of the motor compartment, probably in the neighborhood of 90+ degrees. Dropping the temp down 20-30 degrees will produce very real gains, especially on big V8s.

Would I mess with running air through a cooler box? Absolutely not. You're running a ton of air, 500+ CFM, you'd need something unrestrictive but large enough to cool...

Turbos are different. Their output temps are 180-230 degrees at less than 1 bar of pressure. This is way above ambient. Intercoolers are essentially air-to-air "radiators" - you're forcing air through them.. even a little intercooler makes a big difference. I've seen temp drops as high as 80 degrees with small intercoolers.
