Hi guys i am in the middle of getting a new suv a 2001 izuzu rodeo 3.2l 4x4 rated at 4500-6000 depending on the model (idk which one it is untill tomorrow) I plan on adding a tran cooler and temp gauge http://www.bulkpart.com/2/product/temperature/13009.html (is that a good idea?) and will be mostly a couple short trips 15 min to the ramp but i will be making a couple trips (maybe 2) a year to Georgia during the summer about a 7hr trip an then a 45 min trip to lake from my uncles house. Also i plan on repacking the bearing in my trailer any tutorials or tips (never done it b4) what els should i be looking at adding. the trip wont be till july or aug so i have some time but i wanna save up 4 what i need.

And any ideas on lights for my trailer and boat (I like shiny things lol its a family thing) i will be putting a LED's and i will be putting trailer guides on maybe LEDs. let me know post links or pics thanks

A tranny cooler and good temp gauge is never a bad idea if towing. Do you have to have it, not necessarily but if making a long trip to ga in the summer I certainly would. As far as lights go led is nice just make sure they are good sealed units.

Towing 50% or more of the capacity I would recommend a trnny cooler. Put one on our Trailblazer as soon as we got it. Factory tow package means nothing in this department to me. Change fluid and filter at the same time. Our fluid is as clean and new looking now as the day we installed the tranny cooler and changed the fluid and filter.

There are plenty of tutorials on the web for disassembly, cleaning, inspection, packing, and installation and pre-load adjustment of wheel bearings.

Thanks guys i was wondering on the temp gauge tho. cause it says it installs in the fluid pan if you had to make your own hole or what and if they made failures happen prematurely from a leak. So when i get the truck ill be installing the aux tranny cooler any brands to stay away from?

Some pans have a bung to install a temp sensor if yours doesn't you will have to drill a hole and install a fitting or take it to a shop and have it done. If you do it right there shouldn't be any leaks or failures. If it does leak just a bit you will have to keep an eye on your fluid level.

ok thanks. the truck is sitting at my dads aamco shop so ill have them install it b4 i take ownership i think that will be the first thing ive never done to my own cars. well any ways thanks

I assume you have an auto?
These Izuzu's came with 5 speeds. And if it is, you don't need a cooler.
Bearings are easy. But if you have never set the preload before get some help the first time.

Install your pyrometer inline to tranni cooler. Youll get more accurate temps that way of what is actually happening in the trans. Plus your already running thise lines you can assemble everything on the bench and install it as a assembly.

I agree with Bill. Temp in the pan is going to be way cooler than the peak temp that the fluid is going to get.

Most Automatic trans have a cooler in the radiator and you cut into one of those lines to install your aux cooler. I would cut into the return line so I could cool more than what the hot water in the rad does.

Ok guys very good points it is a Auto never seen one as a 5spd, so ill install aux cooler AFTER the rad. And install the sensor BEFORE the rad. The bearing ill get my grandfather to help me hes done it before any special tools to have as i think thats one of the few tools he dosent have lol
