Have a new to me 95 Johnson electric start. I noticed that sometimes or maybe every time that when I turn the key to start the motor it makes about a one second beep sound and stops. What is that?

Start up a thread on the iboats Johnson outboard motor page. You'll have better luck there. They'll need to know year, HP, and type if motor to be able to help.

That beep is normal. It is coming from the horn that alerts you to an overheating or oil problem. If you don't hear it you need to find out why.

That noise on startup is the noise to tell you the alarm system is working. Then during operation, you will get continuous alarm if the engine overheats and a short blast every three to five seconds if the oil tank gets low and a warble if the oil stops pumping for some reason.
