I have a 91 'Rude 70 VRO still doing what it's supposed to.
Picked up a "kicker motor" last week off C.L.
Now, mine power head on the 70 is good, good compression......................
I can get a rebuilt complete, (carb, pump coils, plug n play), power head off this guy for next to nothing.
If.....................
I unhook linkage from control, wires, shift linkage to lower unit..............
Just unbolt the base bolts and lift the head off???
The manual I have has the steps, but, you know many of them have steps that, really, don't have to be done.
Am I missing something?

Thats about it, but if its a saltie expect those bolts to not come out easy at all
You dont say if the rebuilt has any new internals, it may have bad compression

Tanks!
I read it over, watched what I could on "U-Tube", (that a good place to see and learn)!
Mine is a fresh water, the powerhead is?was? fresh water also.
I haven't asked if he had receipts of the rebuild or what was the orginal problem.
The shed? workshop? was wall to wall outboards in various stages of disassemble, so it looks like he may know something.
It was one of these deals. I went to look at a kicker and we got to chatting, (I wanted to see if he was a outboard butcher or someone who could be trusted.
I spied the powerhead and asked...................
