Quick question about idle adjustment

Forgive me, but I'm from the "fuel injection" generation...I have never worked on a carb, but I do have a basic understanding of their functions...that being said:

Question: How do I adjust the idle speed on my carb. Is it like the lawnmower - just a screw to turn? I think that mine is idling to fast and want to dial it back a bit.

Also, is there a way to measure rpms independent of the dash tach? I want to make sure that is accurate before I mess with the idle speed. If the tach is off, I may not need to adjust.

Thanks and happy boating.

I wouldn't think your '07' Stingray has a carburetor? Typically a carbureter has an idle stop adjustment (screw) and 1 or 2 air fuel mixture screws. Cable adjustment is important for the idle stop to adjust properly.
A portable test tach or other portable tach can be easily hooked up to the coil.

Thanks for the reply -

Unfortunately, it does have a carb...

Is the portable test tach something I could "borrow" from an auto parts place like autozone? I hate to spend money on something I'll probably never use again.

You may be able to borrow an advance/tach timing light to do your basic tune-up and get total advance readings.

Check throttle cable as 70 said to make sure it's not affecting throttle position. Then read the 'adults only section'

Didn't realize carbureted engines were still being used, in this "fuel injection" era, as you put it.
