Hello all, just a question on this 87 120 force engine im rigging up right now. I just ordered some tele 3300 cables(1 pair) and i have a top mount morse contol. Do i need a kit for this outboard or just a ball joint end for the 10-32 thread on the teleflex cable? It seems theres a clamp inside the engine housing for each cable. What seems funny is the clamps are part of the moving linkage. i dont know, my manual doesnt tell me much.

You should have two ball connectors at the rear of the engine connected to a bar screwed to the bottom bypass cover. You need two special ball joint end quick connect fittings to fit over them. The throttle fitting is spring loaded in order to let the shift linkage move and put the engine in gear BEFORE the throttle starts to open.
The cables themselves have a groove in the stainless crimp fitting which fits into the respective clamps on the throttle and shift linkage.
You thread each of the quick connect fittings onto the cable about halfway onto the threaded portion with a lock nut behind them. When clipped over the ball, the throttle fitting should have about 1/4 inch of the spring loaded part showing with the engine in neutral.

Re: quick question on force rigging

No specific kit that I know of because the teleflex cables are generic. But the quick connect ends are sold through most marinas--a little pricey though. The throttle one goes about 25 bucks. They are usually in the catalogs near the cables. Any Merc dealer should have them. They might even sell them here at iboats. I don't remember the exact description of the parts, but someone should jump in with part numbers for you. Spend the extra money and buy the stainless ones. They make them in brass, but I don't like them-- think they are not quite as secure or strong.

Not sure about the Morse top mount, but, the terminals for the control end are usually just brass plugs that thread on the cable ends there and are held to the control with cotter pins. They are not too expensive. Again, these do not come with the cables but are usually listed near them in the catalogs.

Re: quick question on force rigging

Teleflex does not make them. They are a Force part. Had to search a while but They are called Connector-Throttle part A587976-1 and connector-shift part 58685-2. You can also buy stop nuts, part 1513 but they are just standard 10-32 ss nuts--probably a lot cheaper at the local hardware store.
At any rate, Force has not been out of production that long--Your Mercury dealer should have the parts. These numbers came out of a factory 1988 Force 125 manual. Hope it helps.
