Re: quick question

No. The '72 is Hydro-Electric shift. '73 isn't. Besides, the electrical stuff is in the '73 control. The control is supposed to be part of the motor and it should come with the motor. Though it seems it rarely does these days.

Re: quick question

so does it take a special set of controls for this motor then? cause this one does not seem to have them included with it..

Re: quick question

Well, special in the sense that it has the engine wiring in it. Other than that it is an OMC version of the basic single lever twin cable mechanical shift control. They show up on e-bay pretty often. That's probably where all those controls are going that should have gone with a motor. But the one you want is way different than your Hydro-electric that shifted by means of an electrical switch.

Re: quick question

Look at the plugs where the main wiring harnesses meet under the hood. They'll be black, yellow, or red. Red is the newest and works with mechanical shift models. Black is for Hydroelectrics with battery ignition. I believe the yellow ones are Hydroelectric with CD ignition? Match the plug color and it'll work. Johnson or Evinrude interchangable.
