On my 95 Starcraft 1710(3.0lx) I have trouble getting it to start cold. On my outboard controls there is a lever that i use to give it throttle without putting it in gear for cold starts. My question is am I missing something on my control lever that will do the same thing? One guy told me that the control thing pulls out some and that lets you work the throttle without shifting into gear. I tried but it doesnt work, even though it does slide out a half inch or so. Am I missing something obvious, cant see the forest for looking at the tree kind of thing:confused:? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tried looking at threads to find the answer but made it all the way back to 2006 and still no topics on this.

Re: Quick question.

Should be a throttle only button in the pivot point of your shift lever. While in neutral, push it in, then move the throttle lever forward. That should be throttle only.
If you pull the lever back to neutral indent, you will have shift again.
Put it in throttle only and pump a couple times to start, then keep the rpms up to 1000 to 1200 rpm till it warms up.

Re: Quick question.

Post a picture and we'll know for sure. But...

if it isn't the kind that the whole lever pulls out, then there should be a button at the base of the lever (where it pivots) that you push in for "throttle only".

Re: Quick question.

Some of the buttons push in to release and some pull out. Mine, 1992 OMC as I remember pulls out to have throttle only. If something is screwed up inside then put it in full reverse and go into the bottom of the throttle lever with a allen wrench and tale it apart to check it out.

He has a 95 Merc that pushes in, not a 92 OMC that pulls. They come apart different too.

Re: Quick question.

You are right Don, it does come apart different, mostly all I have to do is touch it and it comes right apart into pieces:D. I will replace it soon but there are some other thing that have to be take care of before I get to it.
