Quick Question

Hi Gang,

When parking my boat on the trailer for say 2-3 weeks between uses, should the drive be in the up or down position? I read somewhere, maybe here but I can't find it, that storing in the down position relieves stress on the bellows. Didn't know if this was for extended periods, like over winter, or for shorter periods as well. It's '92 Sea Ray 200BR, with a 5.0LX Alpha 1 drive.

Thanks,
NCC

Re: Quick Question

I keep mine in trailer mode only when trailering. All other times I put it down,,,,,,,,,mainly to prevent body injury from tripping or bumping into it. Similar to smacking your leg on the ball of your hitch........SS

Re: Quick Question

I will try this again. I posted something and it never showed up.?? I usually keep mine up but don't really have a good reason for doing it. I am guessing just so I don't forget it's down and drive off with it that way.

Re: Quick Question

mine "falls" down over about a week or two, so I just let it fall down and it stays there til i need to move it. Trick is not to forget its down when u hook up to it and move it after its been parked with it down for a while lol.

Re: Quick Question

i leave mine down. mostly because i like to run fresh water through my engine after i get home from the weekends fun. so, mines already down. no reason to bring it up till i'm ready to go again. i also usually start my engine prior to going out, so down is where it needs to be for that too. + i know my trim works prior to going to the lake... gotta be better for the bellows too. being down..

Re: Quick Question

Mine stays up because I lift the trailer tongue high for water runoff and the skeg hits the ground.

Same problem here, but I don't have to go as deep at the ramp to launch though.

Your bellows will not deform. The reaon for storing in the down position is to allow the drive to self drain, to prevent freeze damage over the winter. That is not a problem during the summer time.

Re: Quick Question

I leave mine down for a few reasons.

First so one of these youngins dont get a face full of prop.

Second, so the trim hydraulics dont get stuck. Sometimes the rams get dried out and actually stick trying to drop the trim. Ive had this happen on lifts at the shops while trying to drop a vehicle that weighs several thousand lbs.

When I know my boat is going to sit for more than a few weeks, I spray the hydraulic rams down with oil and lower it all the way.
