Quick Question

I am having trouble getting my outboard to run. It is the first time staring it up. It is a 1990 40 horse johnson with oil injection. Basically it starts up but won't idle more than 5-10 seconds. The gas is new this year. The oil is from last year. Does it get old?

Thanks

Re: Quick Question

Is the squeeze bulb going flat? If you pump it after you start it, will it keep running? When was the last time it ran, and have the carbs ever been cleaned?

Re: Quick Question

I got it running. I followed the instructions on the sticky "cold start" thread. Thanks!

How do you guys feel about disableing the oil injection on this motor? It's almost 20 years old and I don't know if I can trust it. If you think it's a good idea, what steps do I need to take to get rid of it?

Thanks!

Re: Quick Question

Disconnect the oil line into the pump, but leave a 2-3" piece to plug with a bolt or other object, then clamp it and re-install back to pump. Disconnect the 2 wires coming from oil resevoir and tape up, then disconnect the cannon plug (3 or 4 wire) that goes to the main wiring harness and tape up. Mix oil 50:1 and away you go.
