Quick questions about lower unit oil change

Changing the lower unit oil on my '82 115 Johnson and have a couple quick questions:

1. Does to motor need to be trimmed all the way down/up or level in order to get the most oil out?

2. My Clemens manual says to fill the bottom hole till oil comes out the top, then drain 1 ounce to allow for expansion. I've never read of that on here and the often referenced "changing the lower unit oil" thread does not mention it either. Which way is right?

3. When switching from regular to synthetic lower unit oil, is it necessary to do a second oil change after a few hours of use to get all traces of the regular out?

Thanks

Re: Quick questions about lower unit oil change

1. down
2. expansion? gear oil? what the?
3. why go synth? you're going to change it every year anyway...it's the only way to find out whether there's any water in it.

1. That's what I figured but wanted to make sure.
2. ??? that's what I thought, but it's what the manual says. I'll just fill it up.
3. Found some of the purple stuff on sale.

Thanks.
