Quick Silver Control Box with a Johnson outboard

I have a quicksilver control box ( 1950-60's era) and am wondering if it will work for my johnson outboard(1962), I am new to boating so bear with me, but is there a way to make it work. I am just not sure of the interchangeability between boxes and motors

The cable end at the engine would have to be changed. It would depend wether the Merc. was push, or pull. If the Merc. had enough engagement throw. It could probably be done, but finding the correct control would be a whole lot easier.
