Quick Silver Throttle Trim

Hello,
I have Quick Silver throttle control with a loose, broken or faulty trim switch. The upper switch does nothing (no clicks, sounds etc.), while the trailer switch works just fine. I disconnected the plug on the trim motor and the wiring back there is in superb condition. I also was able to manually trim by connecting the leads on the starter motor, so I know that's not the issue.

I've found information on how to take the throttle lever apart but it's not working for me. I was able to pull the little button for choke but there is nothing inside there that appears to be removable. I've also tried to look at the hole underneath to see if there's a set screw of some kind; to no avail of course. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking I may just snip the wires and install a 3 way switch for now so that I can use the boat through September, then fix or replace it this winter.

prolly get more precise advice.
Did you trying spraying contact cleaner in the switch itself?? could be just corroded contacts up inthere. Cant hurt.

I wish I knew the model. It just says Quick Silver on it. I bought the boat used and it didn't come with manuals... I'll try spraying the cleaner.

It will prevent from the trim up switch from working. The trailer switch bypasses the trim limit sensor.

It would be helpful to know what year the boat is to figure out which control you have.

Neither the up or down is working. Only the trailer option is, that's why I don't suspect the limit switch. Also, wouldn't that be after the motor so if the motor is working (when I connect the plug prongs with a screw driver) it couldn't be the issue?

The good news is that we can ID it. It is a Commander 2000 side mount control. The bad news is that they have removed the manuals from the site that show you exactly how to take it apart. You have to remove the handle from the back side. The book says remove three screws holding it in place, then the 5 holding the back panel on. That should expose the internal works.

Once you get the back off you should be able to see the trim switch wires (you may have to remove the wire separator and wire cover). I think: Your power will be red your trim up will be purple/white and your trim down will be green/white. They should just unplug from the harness. You should be able to check your switch with a multimeter at that point. Make sure that you have 12v coming in on the red wire. At that point you could rig up your MARINE ;) toggle switch to plug into the harness that you just disconnected. That way your trim limit would work, and you should be good to go for the season. That is not exactly correct. When you jumper with the screwdriver you are bypassing the switches all together. It works this way: You have 12V supplied directly to the trim switch (red wire). When you hit down, the switch connects 12V to the g/w wire, which activates the down solenoid, which provides power to the pump. when you press up the current goes through the purple/white wire through the trim limit switch and back to the blue/white wire connected to the up solenoid.

Just to chime in, did you happen to check the wires that go to the trim limiter switches on the outdrive? My trim up wouldn't work either, and even though I have not fixed this problem yet I suspect that it is the wire that has rotted and broken away from the limiter switch.

Just a thought....not sure if this will affect the weather or not the swicth works but its easy to examine, and eliminate as a problem
