Throttle button will not push in. I have read several threads to attempt to id how to disassemble. I have pried on button and got it to spin but not pop out. When I repositioned button it began to function properly. It is catching on something. I'm sure this condition will reappear. I have the mercruiser service manual (#14) and the SELOC stern drive manual. Neither address the control.
Questions:
How do I remove the button?
What is likely keeping the button from pushing in?

Re: Quicksilver 3000 Throttle Botton sticking

I am having the same problem with the throttle button sticking! I have a 1999 Bayliner Capri (bowrider) w/120HP Force motor. The part# for the shaft assembly behind button is 822202-C1 & the part# for this which includes the housing is 883699A14 -- BOTH DISCONTINUED by MercMarine. Does anyone know where I can go to find this part new or used? Rather than replacing the whole control unit (unnecessary!) at a cost of 3-$400.00? The newer version model # given to me from Merc-Marine is 883710A02.
There must be somewhere in this country that might have this part new or used you would think .....................

Thank you.

Is the Commander and Quicksilver the same controller?
I did not see Quicksilver anywhere in the manual.
Thanx

Re: Quicksilver 3000 Throttle Botton sticking

I just went through this so ask away and I'll try to help. My button came right out but I think I remember reading that you have to have it all the way forward but cant remember for sure. There is basically a little mushroomed pie on the end of that button. Mine was put in and taken out a couple times before I knew how it was held in. I would think you should push the throttle all the way forward and pry gently with a screwdriver. The inners on that control were pretty straight forward, but takes a little time to get the whole control box out so you can work on it. Mine had a throttle lock washer 3.70 cent part that was broke in half and not allowing the button to pop back out.

How do I remove the button?
?
You push the button in and then go to full forward throttle, Then you can carefully pry the button out without damaging the button, Then return the handle back to neutral, Before doing anything else.;)

Quicksilver is a Mercruiser brand name. Commander is the series of the controller.

Re: Quicksilver 3000 Throttle Botton sticking

Boat Tech: Thanks for the info. I was able to get the handle off to check for a short. But - I couldn't find a bare wire.

My situation, not to hijack a thread, is at times when I come to TDC with the throttle, the ignition fuse pops.
The key cylinder is loose on the dash. I checked the cylinder (lock screw (plastic) is broke) but I have it snug.

Last weekend, I would put the boat in nuetral and the engine would quit, as well as the radio. I'd change out the fuse - not doing anthing with the throttle handle - then go on. Wakeboarder would fall, I'd slow, come around to him. Put it in nuetral - dies out. change fuse, fire it up and go.

I took the handle off just now, took off the slider (red) handle, then the plate holding the trim & trailer switches. THERE ARE NO BARE WIRES.....

What should I do?

Thanks - Mike
