93 25hp non tilt out board, Quicksilver control (side mount) I cant find the deadman or figure how it works as there is no lanyard, Engine will start without it, not easy to start but once warm runs fine, Has ignition key push choke, I want the safety lanyard to work, for well safety. what am I missing?

On that side mounted control unit there should be a little notched out area with a slot in it from the top view. The lanyard is used to flip the toggle switch down under that little notched out area so you can place the little plastic fob piece in and flip the switch to the up position again. In that position, the ignition will fire and run. But when you pull that plastic fob piece out the switch flips down again and that kills the ignition to the engine and it stops. So you have to have the wires from the engine's ignition connected to the kill switch from inside for it to actually work correctly.

Here is a used Mercury type kill switch and you can see the toggle switch is in the run (up) position, but with out the lanyard installed. Hope that helps...

GA boater, Yes I am aware that lanyard is missing, I should have said how the heck does it start and run without it? I am trying to determine if the kill has been altered or bypassed somehow, I need it to work as even a new boat guy like me knows its plain stupid not to have one. The pic above from gm280 is very similar.where it says run there is a hole under that shelf part that is empty, is there supposed to be a toggle sticking out of it? I see no where to attach a lanyard, I will go look some more and hopefully find something, I didn't think they would run without it, Maybe I better mention that the motor also has pull start besides the electric start. Thanks for trying to help to both of you.
