Hello all,

New to site. First post. Due to lack of data I've only made it through first 15 pages of controller section.

I'm in need of some help.

I have a 1991 90hp force. And a quicksilver controller side mount no trim switch (not sure on year) I will post pics asap.

I have purchased a set of seastar cables and the specific thread on ends respsective to motor and controller.
My motor end is connected but I can't figure out the controller end.
Do I need to connect one first and then the other?
Do I need to leave motor end off?
Also, I'm not sure of the direction the cables need to move to shift forward reverse throttle up/down etc.
I'm going to go and try to figure that out now.

I have very little adjustment on my cables. Photos to come.
I've hit a road block here and can't seem to move forward. I'd love to see Mercury instructions, picture of the back of quicksilver side mount controllers. Etc.

Any advice is much appreciated!
Thanks,
Ryan

So here is where I am at now

I believe I have the shift cables connected correctly the controllers "shift arm."

I was able to connect the throttle cable to the controllers "throttle arm" as well. Only problem is I cannot bring the controller handle back to neutral as the throttle cable has move the engines throttle can to its lowest range and its stopping the cable from moving any further.

Trying post photos but I'm on my phone and the photos are too larger every time.

Update:
My motor end uses the quick connect ball stud fittings. The quick connects I bought from local marine store are both the same.

After doing a little research it would appear that the throttle cables quick connect fitting is different from the shift connecter in that it is longer and has a spring and allows for a small amount of "pre travel" enaing my controller to get into neautral with that little bit bit of travel. That's my understanding of it anyways.

So I need to purchase the brand specific quick connects not just some genaric crap that I got.
Dam I'm bothered. the other ends were wrong too. Have to make time to go and thank them for bringing in whatever parts they think it might be. Plus the two week wait plus the 30 min drive each way.

Okay I got the correct fittings for the ends of my cables.

Can anyone tell me how to connect my cables to my controller? I'm fairly certain I know which is the throttle arm and shift arm. The shift are is the one tha starts moving first and. Then the throttle arm starts moving.

Mercury control box. Side mount. No trim switch. I believe it's a commander 2000.

I'm struggling. Tomorrow afternoon it's going to a shop. I've conceded and am running out of time.

I had it shifting correctly today while running but the throttle and shift connections were contacting each other at the motor. Reverse was working well but in forward they hit each other and I couldn't throttle it up. I think the gear shift linkage is out a bit too.

Too much to do with trade chool and not enough time to work on it and study. Forums and researching this stuff on an small phone is taking its toll!! Haha.
Mmmyes I am talking to myself.

Okay. Good chat ;)
