I have to go into the Mercury Quicksilver control box, I think this is where the oil/water alarm module is housed. When I open up the control box, is there anything I really need to be careful of? Thanks,

Yes there is,igreen. They are sometimes pretty squirley depending upon how you have to move it around (not quite as squirley as a rope starter recoil spring, but still hairy).
. The biggest problem is illustrating it here. Your best bet is to get the manual for your engine. The breakdown illustrations are in the back of the book, allong with all the different wiring schematics.
If you can't wait for the book to arive for this job, order it, and go to your local library and checkout the manual,or phtocopy the pages you need.

There is a small silver cylinder, much like a ball bearing that can pop out. It is part of the mechanism that makes the shift level sorta snap into neutral. Watch for it.

Re: Quicksilver Controls

Took the quicksilver side mount control and found the alarm buzzer inside the control box. No wiring diagram showed this. Also I have the side mounted Commander series Quickslver control w/TT, piece of cake taking it apart and putting it back. Thanks to all who helped.

Re: Quicksilver Controls

I had to dis-assemble my quicksilver and a gentlemen here named John posted a blown up diagram. If you do a search under kill switch or under my member number you will find it. I think I'm a little late though. Just curious, what year is it? There was a recall on it and mine ended up getting completely replaced thanks to Mercury.

Hey 495v, The control is a 1988 model. I looked all over for the diagram, are you sure he didn't fax it or email it to you. Thanks,

Hey Green, I'm sorry, he did fax it to me. I still have it here with me in my file. I could send it by fax to you, If not, I might get a chance to scan it and email it to you tomorrow. Let me know. I believe the recall covered the years from 95 to late 96 but I'm not 100%. Let me know if you still need the diagram.
