Quieting my cage of squirrels

K so first thanks to all who helped me with my lower unit problems, much apreciated.

So my 57 is back in the water and runnin, well runnin like a 57 does. LOUD!!

I have nothing on the aluminum cowl to deaden the sound Im wonderin what people have tried. I assume it came with some kind of insulation on it. I was thinking of a spray or something.

Are you running it with the air horn silencer on the face of the carb? They deaden the sound a bit, but otherwise they are loud...that's the sweet purr of a carbed 2-stroke on the water. I've read about people using old wetsuits and foam as insulation in the cowl(s), but I've never tried it.

ya i have the silencer on. Just right now im on a small lake and it is really more notacable. before i never really minded.

Hmmmmm, It just so happens I have an old pair of neoprene chest waders that I need to retire soon and an extra cowl for each of my motors. I sense an experiment coming on . Of course I also have visions of Apollo one.

Im just going to buy some sound deadenning spray from a car stereo shop and try it out. Just spray the inside of the cowl. There really isnt much clearance in it, I know the back plug boots just by a hair dont touch the cover.
