Re: Quitting Smoking Tips

I dont know about the puzzles and card games, I think I must be too young for that. But for sure I am 5 days strong and its getting easier. I went to a costume party last night at a bar that was about as tempting as it gets as far as smoking and I came out smelling like hell but I didn't Inhale ;)
Btw my sense of smell and taste has come back! Its funny the things you can get used to. Hope everybody has a great sunday funday!

I tried to stop a couple of times. I finally went cold turkey. Yea, when I quit-3 packs of Camels a day-I didn't know what to do with my hands either. I had always had a cigarette in them. Just remember how much better you feel now. When I couldn't stand it, I would chew on a cigar for a while. Took a few puffs, but didn't inhale. STAY STRONG!

Another thing you will enjoy is that the inside of your car windows no longer have a brown tinge and no more ash everywhere.

What should you do if your girlfriend starts smoking?

Slow down and use a lubricant.

Re: Quitting Smoking Tips

Now that might be the single most convincing way to get somebody to quit I have ever heard. Thank you very much for your appreciation of the feign, and not just acting as its not a big deal.
You're very welcome. Stay strong; and keep up the great attitude.

Have you tried the coffee stirrers yet? Please let me know what you think, once you try it.

When my instructor in paramedic school passed out the coffee stirrers during a class, he didn't tell us what they were for. After everyone had one, he told us what to do with them, and told us we were to breathe only through the coffee stirrer as I had described. He told us we would do this for exactly one minute; but didn't tell us why. He stopped us after one minute, and as several students in the class were huffing and puffing, and trying desperately to recover, he told us, "What you've just experienced for the last minute... is every moment of every day in the life of a COPD'er."

You're going to feel more and more betterererer every day!!!:D

To southkogs: Thanks for the honorable mention...;) I'm really glad your Dad has pulled through!!!

I know what you are dealing with, I had been trying to stop for about month and almost had it, until work put me on the graveyard shift. I would get so bored at work that I would smoke all the time. Then the gf bet me 400 dollars that I couldnt just cold turkey it 12 days go, in two days I will be getting my money. let me tell you its so nice not to have to wake up and go smoke a cig, I can already feel the diffence in my lungs. Keep it up, sucks big time but worth it. good luck.

Powerful stuff, huh? Glad you're still going strong. Keep a couple coffee stirrers on you at all times. Keep a couple in your vehicle. Keep a couple on the boat.;)

It won't be long before you'll be helping others.:D

Re: Quitting Smoking Tips

U know its really not as bad as I had dreamed it up to be in my head. And Yes I smoked more than enough to be considered addicted as it gets. I guess I really do have good will power. And the straw thing, I am good without them. I keep some of the beef jerky snuff on me and take a pinch when I feel like its almost getting to me. Works like a charm and you can eat it when your done stressing. 8 am in the morning makes 7 days! Damn glad I am saying that. Its been a terrible 15 years smoking. Now as far as the other half............ she makes me want to smoke all over again with her trying to quit. Happy halloween people!

I quit about 4 years ago and am so glad that I stuck with it. I stil get urges once in awhile but they get weaker and much farther apart over time. Something that helped me was to think of what a non-smoker would do when one of those urges hit. Its amazing how something so simple can make the urges just evaporate.

Re: Quitting Smoking Tips

Buy a big bag of carrots. Have lots of carrots, salt, pepper, favorite salad dressing, spicy stuff like hot peppers, etc around to dip those carrots in when you get tired of their taste (took me about 4-6 months).

Best of luck with the non-smoking. They do put up a fence

Got you beat. Quit in early '98.

Best Luck. and go for those creams. Best thing ever.

Haha, in 1998 I was a Sophmore in High School. Just about the time I started playing around with it. Where were you then to slap me around? hahaha If I would have listened to my dad I would have quite a bit different life now I suppose. Hard heads..... not always a good thing.

BTW I made it to day 7! Easy as Pie.

You can, you can do it! From a guy who has smoked for over 40 years and has quit many times...don't fall back. There are different methods that have worked for different people, for me it was the e-cigarette. I still have my e-cig charged and ready to go just in case I get the urge. If you can go cold turkey for a month the nicotine habit is easy to break it is the mechanical and fidgeting habits that are hard to shake.
