Have 1981 Mercruiser, I/O 470, "R" drive. Replacing shift bellows and exhaust bellows. Drive bellows good. Have read all postings and great info, especially from Trent. Is the procedure for shift cable bellows replacement the same for "R" drive as for Model 1? Any known helpful hints?
Thank goodness for this bulletin board, as most manuals get real vague in certain areas.

Thanks for the help.
Boat engine serial # 5794035
224 cid MCM 470
Transom Plate 56/5193
Lower Power Unit 4187

The Mod. 1 + the "R" are the Same thing.....
Change All the bellows,+ the Lower Shift Cable at the Same Time.....
It's a Real B*tch of a job..+ Doing it Only Once is More than Enough.....

I'm a Mechanic by trade.... I hired a freind to do mine....
It takes several special tools,+ Many skun knuckles to complete the job....

Thanks for the advice. Any idea on what total cost should run?
